Assignment #14

High school intern teacher hangs self in MRT

A 22-year-old intern teacher at Taipei's First Girls' High School was found dead at a Taipei main station restroom Thursday.

Police said Hsu Pei-hsing, who began an internship last July, hanged herself with her sneaker laces. An MRT station janitor reported the suicide at 7 p.m.

The janitor, whose identity was withheld, told investigators she found nothing wrong when she cleaned the restroom on the third deck of the MRT main station at 6 p.m.

When she was cleaning the same restroom again one hour later, the janitor found one of the bathroom stalls couldn't be opened. When she opened the toilet door, the janitor found Hsu hanging on the pegs for clothing. Her sneakers were left by the side of the toilet bowl.

No suicide note was found, however.

Hsu left a message on her cellphone, investigators said. "Somebody is watching me," the message said, "but I've done nothing against anyone." The message is not yet understood, but Hsu's mother told police her daughter, had no enemies.

"Probably she was under heavy pressure from work," one investigator said. Chow Wen-wei, principal of the girls' high school, said she didn't understand why the intern teacher, who was an alumnus of the school, should commit suicide. "She was well liked by faculty as well as students," Chow said.

Questions:
1. What do you think was the reason behind this suicide?
2. Why would someone choose a public place like an MRT station to commit suicide?
3. What do you think is causing Taiwan's increasing suicide rate?

Pretty sad to see the news. But sometimes it's hard to know someone's thought.
I think there may be too much pressure for her on her work, but it is strange that she hung herself in the MRT station. What if she is protesting about something?

Pressure, sadness, and things like them can make somebody feel down. If the depression keeps getting more and more, it may cause someone to commit suicide. It's sad, though, but things are like this.

After all, it is good to remember what Pete always told us after class, "Try to smile every day."

*Happy New Year and try to smile every day :)

1. No idea. The reason should be answered by her. TV news said that she might have too much pressure from work. Everybody has secrets, who knows hers?

2. Maybe she wanted to be found earlier; maybe she wanted to show something. The reason also should be answered be those who did something like this.

3. I think these two are the main reasons.
1) Modern people have much more pressure and less time for resting.
2) People are getting too much suicide information.
Sometimes, suicide becomes a fashion. People even find "partners" from the Internet when they want to kill themselves!

I admitted I would want to jump out from the window when I was really sad or disappointed at myself. It seemed that if you really did something like this, problems wouldn't be problems anymore.
Obviously, I was "timid" enough to choose to solve the problem by the normal way.
Things will pass, even if you haven't noticed.
This was what I learned.

*William, are you trying to obstruct me from being the first?
>"< You'd better be careful.
**Oh, my God. It's 2008!! How can time pass so fast? How can I become so ~old~?
***Am I talking too much garbage?@@

I think it's hard to know other people's mind.Because many people act happy when they are really sad. This intern teacher will hang in the MRT restroom maybe is because she want someone to find her and stop her,but the thing didn't go so well like what she think, that's pretty sad.In Taiwan when someone suicid our reporter will saying again and again. So many people will like to learn from the TV.Also our teenagers was too protect from school and parents, so if they have alittle pressure they can't absorb and they will want to try what other people do-suicid

It's really hard to guess what was the reason because I don't her. All I know is that she was a teacher. Maybe she've been under heavy pressure or maybe she was afraid of someone was watching her, it seems that she didn't want somebody else like us to find out the answer. Maybe she is waiting for a special someone to find out the answer. However, it's so sad that she couldn't see the firework of Taipei 101 and the sun rise in 2008 again.
Somebody told me that last time I posted a comment was in November.

I think this news shouldn't be reported to the public. The news should be General Audiences and these kinds of news will affected young people's premature heart.
That might be the reason why Taiwan's suicide rate is increasing.
