This Week - 1/25/08

Finish the revisions I suggested to your speech (Dorcas, William, and Sandy) or finish your first draft (Carrie and Samson). If you want, you can type it up and post it on this blog and I will check it for you.
Also, once you have finished it, read it a few times so you are familiar with it. You will make the speech in class on Friday and then we will discuss it together.
Good luck.
Have fun.
Try to smile.

Speech: UNIFORMS

--In some schools, students are required to wear uniforms. However, there are a bunch of reasons why wearing uniforms is bad.

--First of all, it isn’t convenient for students to wear uniforms. Usually there are about 2~3 choices to choose from. Therefore, washing is a big problem. Washing clothes everyday is not good for our environment. The waste water from washing the dirty uniforms will make more pollution than washing our own clothes only once every 2 or 3 days. To remember what clothes should we wear on what day is also a reason.

--Secondly, the materials are not high quality. Because of the poor material, the uniforms do not breathe well. As you know, you won’t feel comfortable when you’re wearing them.

--Third, it is a waste for students to buy extra clothes. Why should we be forced to buy uniforms? Since we are not in the Army or the police, there is no need having them.

--Lastly, we cannot choose what to wear when it's in a certain season, e.g., in Winter, we are not allowed to wear short T-shirts, only because it is not Summer. But in Taiwan, the weather isn't always so clear, it's still a bit hot sometimes. Thus, they make us really unhappy.

--Wearing uniforms is not good, so we shall have the right to choose what to wear during school days.

William, excellent so far. Maybe the last paragraph should be made a bit stronger still. State your points again. Such as: "Uniforms should not be required in school. They are inconvenient, low quality, and a waste of water and money. Not only that, but they are a relic of the days of martial law. We are a modern country and so we should have modern schools." Something like that. A stronger point at the end.
